Firefighter killed, two others injured in restaurant fire

Posted on April 10th, 2012 No Comments

One firefighter lost his life over the weekend and two others suffered third-degree burns after the roof of a restaurant collapsed as they tried to put out the flames. The fire broke out at the Oak Hill Cafe in Parsons around 4:30 am Saturday morning.

The deceased, who was a sergeant with the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office and a volunteer firefighter, died after he became trapped under the roof but not before he pushed two other firefighters to safety.

The two injured firefighters were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and treated for third-degree burns on their hands and faces. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends during this difficult time.
