Hyundai and NHTSA investigate airbag injury

Posted on May 17th, 2012 No Comments

A man driving a new 2012 Hyundai Elantra was injured after his side-curtain airbags deployed, bringing with them a metal bracket that sliced his ear in half. The driver has filed a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which will launch an investigation.

Both Hyundai and the NHTSA will inspect the vehicle to decide whether or not the defect will also occur in the other 123,000 2012 Elantras. Hyundai says it has not received any other reports of injuries and does not plan on issuing a recall at this time.

The Elantra, Hyundai’s second-best selling vehicle, was recently named the North American Car of the Year.
