A 52 year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene of a car crash after her 45 year-old passenger called police to report the accident.
The crash occurred late last week near Interstate 65 and Interstate 24. Officers believe their car slid off the road, hit the guardrails on both sides of the highway, before rolling 30 feet down an embankment and landing on its roof. The 45 year-old man called police from his cellphone, but was unable to tell them where he was.
It took almost two hours before emergency responders found their vehicle. The man was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and is currently in critical condition. Investigators have stated that speed was a factor in the crash, and the man told them he had some beers earlier in the evening. Blood alcohol samples were taken and, if found legally intoxicated, he could face felony charges.
