UT student killed in spring break accident

A University of Tennessee junior was killed and another student was injured in a moped accident near Cancun, Mexico on Monday. The students were out of the country for spring break when the accident occurred.

It is not clear at this time what caused the crash. Officials believe the students were on a cruise and had rented the moped after the ship stopped in Cancun. The deceased, a marketing major from Nashville, was a graduate of Father Ryan High School.

Father Ryan High School cancelled classes on Tuesday and held a mass at the school this morning. The extent of the other student’s injuries has not been released.

Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young man.
