Pfizer is recalling nearly a million birth control pills after a mix up between the contraceptives and placebos could result in unintentional pregnancies.
Lo/Ovral-38 and the generic brands norgestrel and ethinyl estradiol with expiration dates between July 31, 2013 and March 31, 2014 are affected by the recall. The placebo pills could be out of sequence with the contraceptives, which could cause the birth control pills to become significantly weakened.
Women who believe they have a defective package should start using non-hormonal forms of birth control immediately. The mix up is not believed to cause any health problems to the child if a pregnancy should occur.
