The pickup driver who broadsided a bicyclist last month will be charged after the victim died due to serious injuries, Times News reported on June 3.
Charges are being prepared against Stephen Trent by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. Reports said the 20-year-old pickup driver was heading westbound at East Main Street when he ran into Herschell Lawson, 78, who was also traveling westbound on his bicycle. Lawson reportedly hit the pavement after he was struck by the vehicle. Lawson died at Holston Valley Medical Center on May 25.

A 31 year-old Lakewood-Old Hickory bicyclist was killed Wednesday night while riding on Old Hickory Boulevard near 28th Street. The man was killed after an SUV hit him from behind, according to the The Tennessean.
The Middle Tennessee University graduate was riding back from a dinner with his brother. Family says he was an avid outdoors man and often rode his bike. However, they do not believe he often took the route that took his life.
Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene. The 23 year-old driver told law enforcement that he did not see the bicyclist and didn’t know what he hit until he got out of the car. So far no charges have been filed.
Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends during this difficult time.
