Last week, an 83-year-old woman was killed in an escalator accident at the local grocery store Harris Teeter. Emergency crews were called last Wednesday afternoon to the store after witnesses saw her fall in the parking garage.
According to WSMV, the woman accidentally placed her shopping cart on the pedestrian escalator. The cart then fell on top of her, causing her to fall to the bottom of the escalator. Harris Teeter has both pedestrian escalators and ramps to transport shopping carts.
The woman was transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition, where she later died from her injuries.
