The 4th of July is usually a time to get together with friends and family, BBQ, swim, watch the fireworks, and maybe set off a few of your own. However, the celebration could take a serious and potentially fatal turn if precautions are not taken.
Every year, about 9,000 people are hurt by fireworks. Children are especially at risk for firework-related injuries due to inexperience and pure curiosity. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 40 percent of injuries occur to children 15 years and younger.
Sparklers and firecrackers should be left exclusively to trained professionals. If you go out to see a display, remember to stay at least 500 feet away from the lighting area and obey the safety barriers.
If you or a loved one has been injured by fireworks due to another’s negligence, contact the personal injury lawyers of Pohl & Berk, LLP by calling 615-277-2765.
