In the 51 locations they studied, pedestrian and metro design advocacy group Smart Growth America stated that Nashville placed 15th in amount of pedestrian accidents. At least 210 pedestrian deaths were recorded in Nashville between 2003 and 2012. Leslie Meehan of Nashville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization said that the city has delayed constructing design changes to roads that would increase pedestrian safety. Meehan stressed the need for road improvements due to the growing popularity of biking and walking around the metro.
