Deputy struck by car in Hancock County

A Hancock County deputy suffered minor injuries Saturday night after he was hit by a car. He had stopped a car on suspicion on drunk driving when the driver sped off and hit the deputy on the side.

The driver’s side passenger fell out of the car as it sped away. He was taken to Hancock Medical Center but left the hospital before authorities could question him. Police are still looking for the man.

Authorities arrested the driver and the other passenger later that night. The driver is charged with public drunkenness, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, disorderly conduct, and aggravated assault on a police officer.
