The driver of a Chevy Impala is in the Shelby County Jail being held on $200,000 bond after he killed the 41 year-old female passenger inside a car who was helping a stranded motorist jump his vehicle. The fatal crash happened in the early morning hours of October 21 on Interstate 20 near Poplar.
According to the Commercial Appeal, the 25 year-old driver who hit the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol. Authorities have charged him with DUI, public intoxication, leaving the scene of an accident, driving without insurance, and driving with an open container of alcohol.
The deceased was a Memphis mother of two. Her death has put Tennessee’s traffic fatalities at 825, which is a four percent increase compared to this time last year that had 791.
