A three year-old girl and her parents were awarded $1.8 million by a Nebraska jury in their lawsuit against the mother’s obstetrician. The child’s left arm was effectively paralyzed during delivery.
The nerves in her shoulder were damaged and severed after the obstetrician pushed down on the child’s head to free her arm that was caught behind the mother’s pelvic bone. This move caused severe damage to her arm, which will always be shorter than her right arm.
$1.2 million was awarded to the child for past and future medical expenses and for potential lost wages due to her injury. $600,000 is for her pain and suffering. The parents received $5,000.
