A U.S. subsidiary of a German drug maker is recalling its intravenous antibiotic after it discovered contaminants in a sample vial that may cause life-threatening health problems, Federal health officials with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stated on Tuesday, October 15 said.
According to reports, U.S. health officials discovered floating particle, including hair, metal bits, and cotton fibers, in a sample vial of “Cefepime for Injection USP and Dextrose Injection USP” with lot number H3A7444. The contaminated antibiotic produced by B. Braun Melsungen may cause stroke, blood clots, and heart attack, according to the FDA. The German drug maker has cooperated by recalling the antibiotics immediately.
Patients who have experienced problems linked to the contaminated drug should immediately seek medical help and report the incident to B. Braun.
