If a newly proposed bill is passed, Tennessee drivers could be forbidden from using mobile phones while driving.
The bill outlines that drivers caught using their phones will be given a warning for a first offense. All following offenses will be punishable with a fine worth $500. However, in emergency situations, drivers will not face consequences if they are caught using their phones. Under the state’s current law drivers on the road are not allowed to send text messages.
If the bill is made into law, it will go into effect in January of 2015.
Distracted driving can cause serious injuries to other drivers and pedestrians on the road. If you have been injured by a reckless driver in Nashville, a lawyer at Pohl & Berk, LLP, could help you hold negligent drivers liable for their actions.
