A deadly truck accident left one person dead and one injured west of Cherry Street early in the morning of March 15.
Authorities said several explosions and a large fire resulted from a head-on collision between a pickup and a trailer truck around 2 a.m. According to reports, a trailer truck struck the pickup, which was going the wrong way. The pickup driver died on the spot, but the driver’s identity was not released at the time the accident was reported.
Capt. DJ Corcoran of the Knoxville Fire Department said crews took several hours to put out the fire because there were no hydrants in the area, and water had to be shuttled through tankers.
The truck driver, Scott Beaman, 41, sustained minor injuries and was brought to a hospital for treatment.
