The former bass guitar player of the rock band 3 Doors Down was sentenced on December 18 in Nashville to two years in prison, an article of The Tennessean reported.
Reports said Robert Harrell is expected to begin his imprisonment on December 28. Harrell was also sentenced to six years of probation by Judge Mark Fishburn after being involved in an accident that killed vehicle driver Paul Shoulders Jr., 47. Reports said Harrell was driving a vehicle as fast as 101 mph and was under the influence of controlled substances when he struck Shoulders’ vehicle on Interstate 40 on April 19, 2013. Harrell, who was charged with several DUI-related offenses after this collision, entered a guilty plea on December 11.
The 43-year-old musician expressed his apologies to Shoulders’ family members who attended his court appearance. Harrell stated that he realized he had become addicted to prescription medication in 2009 and went to rehabilitation clinics four different times.
Judge Fishburn also ordered Harrell to spend time during his probation visiting schools and speaking to students about the dangers of narcotics.
A bus driver in Tennessee is facing charges after he was recently apprehended by authorities for driving a bus containing students while under the influence of alcohol, a December 9 article reported.
In a checkpoint conducted by personnel of the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), authorities initially observed that 58-year-old Robert Michael Hoskinson smelled of alcohol. Hoskinson, who is an employee of Wise Coaches, was driving a bus containing 56 students on their way to a football championship game in Cookeville. Hoskinson was taken into custody after he failed a field sobriety test and authorities found a half-full a bottle of liquor inside the bus. After an investigation, Wise Coaches decided to terminate Hoskinson.

A wrongful death lawsuit was recently filed against Porsche claiming negligence in the death of movie actor Paul Walker almost two years ago, a November 27 article of NBC News reported.
Reports said lawyers representing the actor’s father claimed that some “safety features” were not included in the 2005 model Porsche Carrera GT occupied by Walker at the time of his single-vehicle crash on November 30, 2013. The lawsuit also claimed that some parts of the vehicle were found to be defective, including seat belts and “side-door reinforcements.” The lawsuit alleges that the actor may have survived the accident if his vehicle had sufficient safety features. A similar lawsuit was filed by the actor’s daughter last September. Fellow race enthusiast Roger Rodas, who was operating the vehicle occupied by Walker, was also killed in the crash.

Massachusetts-based company SharkNinja Operating LLC is recalling about 1.1 million blenders sold in the U.S. after being notified of 53 consumer injuries, cpsc.gov reported on November 12.
According to reports, the affected blenders can cause laceration injuries if consumers tilt the pitcher with the blade assembly still in place and the lid detached. At least twelve blender models are included in the recall. Instead of returning the recalled blenders, consumers are expected to be given revised instructions and warnings to help avoid injuries. Consumers who own the recalled blenders are advised to use the pour spout in the pitcher’s lid when pouring out contents or remove the blade unit and the lid altogether when pouring.

At least nine students were hospitalized with minor injuries after the school bus they were riding in Roane County was involved in an accident, News Channel 11 reported on October 22.
Information coming from the Tennessee Highway Patrol revealed that a school bus occupied by 22 students flipped on its side on the 600 block of Mahoney Road. The accident reportedly occurred when the bus’s tires failed to navigate the curve and slipped off the road. There is apparently no guardrail in place to protect vehicles from sliding down the steep hill.
Nine students were transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries ranging from minor cuts to a possible separated shoulder. The driver, identified as 66-year-old Sam Davis, was not injured in the mishap. An investigation is being conducted by Highway Patrol in order to determine the cause of the crash.

Drummer of well-known rock band Blink-182, Travis Barker, recently recounted his experience of the September 2008 plane crash in South Carolina during an interview on Good Morning America. Barker gives a full description of the harrowing crash in his book, Can I Say.
The 39-year-old drummer and the late DJ Adam Goldstein were the only survivors of the airplane accident, including the Learjet’s crew, Berker’s security guard, and his assistant. The plane crashed after a tire blew out while they were attempting to take off from Columbia and return to California.
Barker, who underwent multiple surgeries and spent months in different care facilities, suffered serious burn injuries to over 65 percent of his body. Barker stated that his pain was so intense during recovery that he contemplated ending his own life. The drummer credited his two children for pulling him through, and stated that he will only consider boarding a plane again when his children ask him to.

At least thirteen companies recently issued a recall of approximately 1.3 million bicycles in the U.S. after one individual suffered injuries caused by a bike with a faulty front disc brake and quick release lever.
The recalling companies will reportedly repair the defective bikes with faulty quick release (QR) levers, as this part may swing open and hit the disc brake rotor, causing accidents. Reports said a man suffered several injuries after the bicycle he was riding either came to a sudden stop or its front wheel suddenly came off during operation.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has listed the thirteen companies affected by the recall on their website and advises consumers to check their bikes to see if they are included in the recall. If so, individuals are encouraged to contact their bike dealer or maker in order to arrange a repair.
