Beef patties that may contain wood particles recalled

A meat company based in Sauk Rapids recently issued a recall for an estimated 89,568 lbs of beef patties distributed in the U.S. due to possible wood debris contamination. Reports said the Sam’s Choice Black Angus Vidalia Onion beef products produced by Huisken Meat Company may possibly contain “extraneous wood materials.”

In the Class II recall documents submitted to the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service, it was revealed that the possible contamination was observed during inspection. Huisken Meat and federal authorities are unaware of any complaints of illnesses or injuries involving the tainted beef patties; however, consumers who might have bought the affected beef are urged to immediately throw it away or return it to the store where it was purchased.

Millions of bicycles in the US recalled over faulty components

At least thirteen companies recently issued a recall of approximately 1.3 million bicycles in the U.S. after one individual suffered injuries caused by a bike with a faulty front disc brake and quick release lever.

The recalling companies will reportedly repair the defective bikes with faulty quick release (QR) levers, as this part may swing open and hit the disc brake rotor, causing accidents. Reports said a man suffered several injuries after the bicycle he was riding either came to a sudden stop or its front wheel suddenly came off during operation.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has listed the thirteen companies affected by the recall on their website and advises consumers to check their bikes to see if they are included in the recall. If so, individuals are encouraged to contact their bike dealer or maker in order to arrange a repair.

New Ford Mustangs with defective seat belt sensors recalled

Ford Motor Co. recently issued recall of a new model of Mustang vehicles in the U.S. due to a seat belt problem that may potentially harm front seat passengers, a December 10 article on Consumer Affairs stated.

According to reports, the recall affects 50 units of 2015 Mustangs manufactured from August to October 2014. The seat belt sensors of the affected vehicles reportedly may fail to identify the size of the front seat passenger which may result in inaccurate airbag deployment in accidents. The automaker has already coordinated with their dealers and owners for a free replacement and installation of the front seat belt buckle.

Takata and several automakers sued for defective airbags

Airbag producer Takata and at least 10 automakers are facing a class action lawsuit in the U.S. for selling hazardous vehicles, an article on the BBC News reported October 28.

A lawsuit filed in a district court in Florida claims that the Japanese airbag maker and 10 other automakers including General Motors and Honda intentionally did not inform the public of the possible risks linked to the airbags that are installed in their vehicles. Passengers reportedly may suffer serious or even deadly injuries from metal shards ejected from bursting airbags. There were already four incidents of death and dozens of injuries that are being linked to this malfunction. An estimated 8 million vehicles are currently being recalled in the U.S. after an intensive investigation was conducted by federal safety regulators.

Over 200K GM vehicles in the U.S. recalled

Auto manufacturer General Motors (GM) issued recall to 221,558 sedans primarily in the U.S. that may catch fire due to a defective parking brake, an article stated on September 20.

According to the recall, some recent models of Chevrolet Impalas and Cadillac XTS sedans are equipped with a faulty electric parking brake arm that may get stuck after use. The affected vehicles are at risk of catching fire as a result of the brake pad grazing the rotor and creating friction. GM said that they are unaware of any injuries or any incidents caused by the affected sedans. Owners will receive notification from their dealers to have their vehicles fixed for free.

Chrysler has yet to recall potentially dangerous Jeeps

Chrysler hasn’t yet enforced a recall for 1.56 million Jeep vehicles that could pose a fire hazard to drivers and passengers.

Chrysler announced the recall last June after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigated some complaints over the affected Jeeps. Neither Chrysler, nor Jeep commented on the delayed enforcement of the recall.

In order to improve the safety of the vehicle, a trailer hitch will be installed to protect the gas tank from damage and fire. Owners of the affected vehicles were told in a letter last December that Chrysler is currently in the process of producing the parts needed for repairs.
