Aspen Foods chicken recalled for salmonella contamination

Aspen Foods recently issued a recall to about 1,978,680 lbs of chicken meat products in the U.S. that may have been contaminated with harmful salmonella bacteria, a July 15 report from the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service stated.

The recall affects Aspen’s raw, frozen, breaded, and stuffed chicken products made from April to July. The processed chicken meat products were recalled after federal authorities were informed of individuals in Minnesota suffering from illnesses related to salmonella infection after consuming the affected products. From the appearance of the recalled products, consumers who bought it might not cook it properly, as they may assume they are precooked. Consumers are at risk of suffering from fever, abdominal pains, and diarrhea after being exposed to salmonella bacteria.

Suffering illnesses from eating contaminated food products can be serious and result in hefty financial losses.
