Thousands of ATVs with fire hazards included in Polaris broadened recall

Approximately 13,000 units of “Recreational Off-Highway Vehicles” have been included in a recall from Minnesota-based Polaris Industries, Inc., due to an engine defect that can cause the vehicles to catch fire, an article for cpsc.gov reported on September 1.

According to the recall, the engines of the affected ROVs may emit excessive heat during operation. Polaris in 2015 initially recalled 2,230 various models of ROVs as they may also catch fire if the drain tube of the turbo system malfunctions. At least six persons in the 19 complaints received by Polaris suffered burn injuries. Polaris is addressing the situation by offering a “free repair” to consumers who were affected by the recall. Consumers were also advised to refrain from using their affected ROV units while waiting for the appropriate repair.

Sadly, many people are left permanently disabled after sustaining burn injuries caused by substandard product sold in the market. If this has happened to you or to a loved one, enlisting a skilled lawyer to represent you is crucial.
