U.S. athlete Torrin Lawrence was killed in a late-night vehicular accident as he traveled through Georgia, a New York Times article reported on July 28.
According to Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock, the incident happened on Interstate 75 just after 1:00 a.m. Lawrence, 25, was on his way home to Jacksonville, Florida when one of his tires popped. Lawrence apparently exited his vehicle to make a phone call when a huge truck appeared and struck his vehicle. Lawrence was fatally struck by his own vehicle after the collision. Lawrence was a 400-meter runner, often in relays, for Team USA. Just this month, Lawrence clocked his personal best outdoor time for the 400 meters at a meet in Belgium.
